Discover the beauty and philosophy of Kintsugi through a unique 1-night, 2-day cultural retreat in northern Shiga.

Created in collaboration with Soweido, this immersive program introduces guests to the traditional Japanese art of repairing ceramics with lacquer and gold while embracing the beauty of imperfection and renewal.

Held inside a working Kintsugi studio, the experience offers a rare opportunity to step into an authentic craftsman’s workshop and observe the environment where traditional techniques are practiced and preserved. Guided by a craftsman with nearly four decades of experience, participants enjoy meaningful hands-on learning that goes beyond technique to explore the cultural values and spirit behind Kintsugi.

The journey includes an overnight stay at Guesthouse Ko-Rai-Gen, a private temple stay beside a historic Buddhist temple near Lake Biwa. Guests may also join optional morning temple experiences and enjoy cultural exchange with the resident priest.
