Spot No. 3 Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia) Avenue

Approximately 500 dawn redwoods (Metasequoia) form a beautiful avenue stretching over 2.4km. The perfect spot to enjoy the changing faces of the seasons, from the verdant greens of spring to the crimson leaves of fall.

Spot No. 4 Makino Pic-land

An agricultural park where you can enjoy picking seasonal fruit. Experience picking early summer cherries, rare for Kansai fruit parks, along with blueberries, grapes, chestnuts, sweet potatoes and apples. They also have a shop that sells handmade gelato and souvenirs.

Spot No. 5 Omi-Imazu Port

Spot No. 6 Chikubushima Cruise (Biwako Kisen)

A route from either Nagahama Port or Imazu Port to Chikubushima. There are also routes that cut across Lake Biwa, such as Nagahama Port > Chikubushima > Imazu Port or Imazu Port > Chikubushima > Nagahama Port. Chikubushima has long been known as a powerful spot for spiritual energy, with the entire island being wreathed in a mysterious power that many visitors go there to receive. Actual schedule depends on the time of year, so please confirm before use.

All across these areas you can see underground water from the Adogawa River and the Hira mountains bubbling up as fresh springs. Observe a village where an eco-friendly water circulation system is an intimate part of everyday life, including still using “kabata” pools to obtain water for drinking and everyday use.

Spot No. 9 Shirahige-jinja Shrine

Shirahige-jinja Shrine was founded 1900 years ago, boasting the longest history for a shrine Omi. This is also one of the constituent elements of the Japan Heritage story. Against the backdrop of the lake island of Okishima, the sight of fishing boats going about their business between the torii gates in the offing is particularly stunning. Furthermore, the gates are illuminated at night. (Illumination times: Saturday and Sunday – around 2 hours after sunset, September 5 – from sunset until around 10pm, New Year’s Eve – until dawn, January 1 to January 5 – from sunset until around 9pm)
Early morning is a particularly recommended time to visit, with the morning sun rising inside the Torii gate, and this has recently also become is a popular time to take photos.
