The construction is a typical example for this type of facility, and it is the only one remaining in such near-perfect condition along the Tokaido Road. The Kusatsu City Aquatic Botanical Garden Mizunomori is a liberating botanical garden that features lakes spreading away in three directions. Against the backdrop of the Hira and Hieizan mountains, the shifting scenery of Lake Biwa is incredibly romantic. Alongside unique facilities in which you can view a wide variety of aquatic plants, the garden also offers a rich selection of other flowers that can be enjoyed throughout the year. The immediately adjacent shores of Lake Biwa also feature one of the foremost producers of lotus flowers in Japan.

One of the largest lake-based museums in Japan, with a wide variety of exhibits. Among them is an aquarium that only contains freshwater fish, a considerable rarity. It includes not only rare species overall but also every type of fish indigenous to Lake Biwa and then others from across Japan and the world.
