The large, holy forest in the center of the town is the location of the Namura-jinja Shrine, a National Treasure. Much of the shrine is designated as National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties. During the New Year’s Eve celebrations free amazake, a sweet drink made with fermented rice, is given to all worshippers through to the morning of the New Year, and the shrine always experiences a throng of visitors.
